OoTD No. 36 – SHORTS WEATHER

As I mentioned in my last OOTD post, spring has well and truly sprung in Sydney. As soon as the temperature started nudging the mid-20s (celcius, obvi) I got my pins out (and proceeded to tell the world about it).

shorts

I promise I wasn’t feeling as surly as I looked in the photo above. I was super excited to be outside on this gorgeous day BUT I was also keeping an eye out for the bus that was to take us to the pub, so I think that’s my ‘hurry up and take a photo’ face.

shorts - sneakers

I finally FINALLY have a pair of Jeremy Scott x adidas kicks to call my own. I have been dying for a pair of sneakers from their collabo ever since I saw those gold wings back in 2008, so I am loving myself sick right now. Pastels aren’t usually my thing, but I’m VERY into this ice creamy colourway… expect to see me wearing these a lot this summer.

Jacket: Asos - men’s size L. Currently available.
Tshirt: Lazy Oaf – one size. Currently available (FYI, it’s cheaper on Urban Outfitters).
Jeans: Witchery - size 16. Old collection.
Sneakers: Jeremy Scott x adidas Originals JS License Plate ‘South Beach’ – men’s size 9.
Backpack: Second hand from GAMMAvintage

I am 1.72m/5’8″, somewhere between 90 and 95kg/200 and 210lbs and I normally wear an Australian size 16/UK size 18/US size 14-16. My measurements are 107-96-114cm/42-38-45 inches.

OoTD No. 35 – Donut Steeze

It seems ridiculous to be posting this outfit now; I wore this over a month ago on a trip to the Blue Mountains with the in-laws. Being Sydney, winter is now well and truly over (and has been for weeks) so it somehow feels wrong to be featuring an outfit that involves ear muffs and a scarf. BUT said outfit also features the Greatest Jumper of All Time so I got over it.

BM

IT HAS DONUTS ON IT. DONUTS. (This, coupled with my tshirt covered in burgers, form the beginning of a great food-themed wardrobe.)

If you need a closer look at the detail, here’s a selfie taken in my bathroom with post-pilates hair the day it arrived in the post. Best purchase ever, Y/Y?

Ear muffs: Rike Feurstein. Old collection.

I am 1.72m/5’8″, somewhere between 90 and 95kg/200 and 210lbs and I normally wear an Australian size 16/UK size 18/US size 14-16. My measurements are 107-96-114cm/42-38-45 inches.

OoTD No. 34 – Do the Bartman

My wardrobe is getting the to the point where I’m basically dead happy with everything in it. I’ve culled the dull stuff (mainly a lot of black jersey), and have stuck to only buying stuff I need/want with great urgency.

The weird thing is that my wardrobe now seems to be the one that I’ve been wanting since I was about 13 years old. The leather jacket, the platform sneakers, the all bright everything… it’s all stuff I’ve been into since I was barely pubescent (with the exception of my ill-advised punkish/numetal-y  stage when I was 17).

I’m basically the embodiment of that prolonged adolescence phenomonen that baby boomers love ranting about.

Acid wash

Mining the men’s section is the best thing ever. Just like in my last OOTD post, this fookin’ amazing acid wash denim jacket was made for a dude. (And, just like last time, I have to roll up the sleeves so I can see/use my fingers.)

Everyone remembers this song, right? Shake your body, turn it out if you can, man.

Jacket: Asos - men’s size L. Currently available.
Tshirt: Romwe - one size. Romwe turns over stock incredibly quickly, so even though I bought this shirt a few weeks ago, it’s already off the site. That said, they still have a few Simpsons items left. The site isn’t fat friendly but you may have some luck with the oversize tees/shirts/cropped tees.
Jeans: Witchery - size 16. Old collection.
Sneakers: Converse All Star Chuck Taylor – men’s size 8 (I think). Available literally everywhere that sells sneakers.
Backpack: Second hand from GAMMAvintage
Half-arsed top knot: Not showering before I left the house
Soft drink: Jarritos Mexican Cola

I am 1.72m/5’8″, somewhere between 90 and 95kg/200 and 210lbs and I normally wear an Australian size 16/UK size 18/US size 14-16. My measurements are 107-96-114cm/42-38-45 inches.

Life, as seen on instagram

So all of a sudden it’s July and I haven’t updated my blog in bloody ages. Again. Sorry about that. It may please you to know, however, that I have been quite prolific on my new instagram: @awesomefrances. (Because apparently the tumblr, the other tumblr, the twitter, the facebook, and the pinterest weren’t enough.)

I never quite understood the appeal of instagram, but it turns out that was purely because I had a crappy phone. Once I upgraded to a handset that can actually actually take a clear photo AND cope with the instagram app without crashing, I turned into an insta-freak. Here’s what I’ve been up to over the past six weeks:

OoTD No. 33 – Girl gang

Another item crossed off my 90s wishlist: I now have a sick leather jacket to call my own.

(For those of you who are curious, these are the remaining items on the list: a denim jacket (preferably acid wash), a denim vest (ditto), some butterfly clips, maybe a pair of high top Chuck Taylors, maybe a pair of black Dr Martens. However, I am of course taking all good suggestions.)

Jackets are usually my enemy. I have quite broad shoulders which are usually contricted in women’s jackets. The solution? A leather jacket from the men’s section of the shop. It fits my shoulders better than any other coat I’ve owned, I can zip it up AND it’s not stupidly cropped like so many jackets for women (perfect for when your chest is freezing but your midsection is burning up). The only downside is that I have to roll up the sleeves.

 DSCN2759

Wearing a leather jacket kind of makes me feel like I’m in a girl gang. Not an actual gang, mind you, more just looking good and loitering.

Sneakers: Converse Lady Weapon – UK size 8. Old collection.

OoTD No. 32 – Smells Like Teen Spirit

I am officially writing to you from my late 20s, as on Wednesday, I turned the ripe old age of 27. Interestingly enough, when I was little this was the age at which I thought I’d be getting married and having babies. I don’t know why I picked this number in particular; ’27’ just sounded terribly mature. (In reality I live in sin with the Boyfriend, dress like a teenager, and forget to buy groceries every other week. SHOWS WHAT YOU KNOW, LITTLE FRANCES.)

To celebrate this momentous occasion, a bunch of mates and I went to a 90s-themed dance party called Teen Spirit, which is a ridiculous and amazing club night that I love with all my heart. Since I’m still firmly ensconced in my 90s obsession, I decided to dress the part.

DSCN2745

I can cross another item off my 90s extravaganza wishlist: I am now the owner of the PERFECT leather mini backpack.

I had forgotten how spacious these things are. This wee backpack is smaller than my handbag, but with its multitude of zips and hidden pockets, it fits just as much. I bloody love it… so much so that this cheap, tacky thing has replaced Marc Jacobs. I’m bringing ‘em back.

DSCN2747

And here is me and my outfit in action. The DJs played Pony and Ignition (Remix) and Common People and I shout sang and danced dirty and saw 18 years olds making out like their lives depended on it.

It was a spectacular night.

OoTD No. 31 – This is more like it

In my last OoTD post, I wrote that I had not yet found an outfit that was worthy of my sickening Buffalo x Solestruck platforms. A couple of you left lovely comments saying that my first attempt at styling them had already hit the mark, which was terribly sweet of you.

Sweet but wrong.

Because now I look bloody amazing:

DSCN2716

The dress is by Lazy Oaf, a London-based brand that I LOVE. I so wish they would expand their size range so all fatties can have this much fun with their clothing. (Domino Dollhouse’s latest collection is the closest a plus size range has come to speaking to me the way Lazy Oaf does.) This dress is marked as a size UK12-14, but it’s incredibly stretchy so I was able to fit my UK18 size body into it without much trouble. That said, my width and height does mean that the dress rides up like a mofo on me, requiring a black mini underneath to prevent flashing the odd flap.

DSCN2715

I can now tick ‘Oversized chambray shirt’ off my ’90s extravanganza’ shopping list. Next target: a mini leather backpack. I’m already trawling etsy…

Dress: Lazy Oaf – size L. Currently available. (It’s also available on Asos.)
Denim boyfriend shirt: Asos – size UK18. Currently available.
Black skirt (worn underneath): Supre – size XL. Old collection.
Shoes: Buffalo x Solestruck – size 10. Currently available.
